Frequently Asked Questions
General
What does online check-in mean?
Airlines allow passengers to check in 12, 24, or up to 72 hours before departure. Check-in confirms your intent to take the flight and enables seat selection and additional service bookings. 1Checkin automates this process and delivers all boarding passes within one single app, ready at the click of a button.
Why 1Checkin, and how does it work?
The service automates online check-in for all airlines that offer it. The process is simple:
- Forward your booking confirmation to flights@1check.in
- A passenger profile is created from your booking information
- Adjust seat preferences as desired
- Automatic check-in happens as soon as the airline opens registration
- Download your boarding pass directly from the app
It works with every airline that offers online check-in.
Can I check in other passengers or travel companions?
Yes, you can check in multiple passengers from the same booking. For separate bookings, travel companions can forward their confirmations to your personal check-in email address, and they will appear in your upcoming flights section.
How much does it cost?
The service is free for a limited number of check-ins. Premium subscribers receive unlimited check-ins and can check in unlimited passengers.
What about my personal details?
We operate and store any personal passenger information on certified secured servers, and act in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You can delete your account at any time.
Entering my passport data
Passport or visa numbers may be required for check-in depending on the airline and destination. All data is stored on certified secured servers and is fully protected under GDPR.
Which airlines are supported?
1Checkin works for every airline that offers online check-in, covering over 500 airlines worldwide.
How do I recognise my booking reference (PNR)?
The booking reference usually consists of a combination of 5–6 letters and digits. Travel agencies may issue multiple booking numbers on a single ticket — look for the one labelled PNR or booking reference.
The system says I provided the wrong booking reference. What should I do?
Verify that the booking reference is 6 capital letters/numbers (some airlines use 5–7 characters). Check for alternative numbers such as the airline code or global agency reference. You can also forward your confirmation directly to flights@1check.in for automatic detection.
What is the difference between a booking reference (PNR) and an e-ticket number?
The booking reference (PNR) is usually 6 capital letters and numbers and covers all passengers in a booking. The electronic ticket number (e-ticket) consists of 13 digits and is unique per passenger — the first three digits represent the airline code.
Is it enough to enter one e-ticket number for several passengers?
No. The electronic ticket number is individual for each passenger, even if you bought the tickets together. Each passenger requires their own e-ticket number.
The Check-in Process
When do I get checked in?
Our system checks you in as soon as online check-in opens at the respective airline. The scheduled check-in time is shown on each flight card. You can also reschedule check-in to a preferred time, which is useful if you want to select your seat manually first.
What about my Frequent Flyer Program number?
You can add multiple Frequent Flyer Program numbers to your passenger profile. Note that your FFPN is typically required during the flight booking process itself — in that case it cannot be added again during check-in.
Frequent Flyer Program numbers of travel companions
Loyalty program numbers can be added to each travel companion's passenger profile in the app's passengers section.
How does the seat preferences feature work?
Set your seat preferences (window, aisle, front, etc.) with backup strategies if your preferred seat is unavailable. You can also set defaults for multiple passengers to ensure families or colleagues are seated together. The Seat Tracker feature lets you request the full seat map of your upcoming flight to choose or upgrade seats manually.
Once You Are Checked In
How do I get my boarding pass?
Once you are checked in, your boarding pass is available directly in the app for download on the respective flight card.
What about mobile boarding passes for wallet apps?
We are in the process of implementing wallet app support and will announce this feature upon completion.
Can I reverse the check-in once completed?
This depends on the feature availability provided by your airline. Please check the airline's website for details on reversing a check-in.
Can I change my seat after check-in?
Yes, if your airline permits it. You can use the Seat Tracker feature to change or upgrade your assigned seat after check-in.
What if I want to change or cancel my flight?
Flight changes and cancellations depend on your booking terms and airline policies — these are separate from the check-in process. Please contact your airline or booking agent directly.
What if I have checked luggage?
You can still use 1Checkin for online check-in and drop your luggage at the airport's baggage drop counters. Note that some airlines charge a penalty fee if you arrive at the check-in counter without having checked in online beforehand. Self-service baggage drop stations accept your boarding pass scan or booking details for label printing.
What is a check-in confirmation and where is my boarding pass?
On some routes, airlines do not issue a boarding pass immediately if they need to verify documents or luggage. In this case, you will receive a check-in confirmation linked to your flight card, and you will need to collect your boarding pass at the check-in counter or a self-service kiosk at the airport.
Premium Features & Subscriptions
How do I purchase a subscription?
Subscriptions can be purchased on the website or within the mobile app.
How can I cancel my subscription?
For purchases made through iTunes or the Play Store, cancel through those platforms. For purchases made directly on the website, email support@1check.in. You can also remove the linked credit card from your profile.
How does the Seat Tracker feature work?
The Seat Tracker lets you request the seat map of your upcoming flight so you can choose a seat manually or upgrade to a preferred seat that may not be available for free.
What extra services are available?
Depending on the airline and flight, extra services may include additional luggage, in-flight meals, seat upgrades, and class upgrades — all manageable directly within the app.
Check-in Balance
What is the check-in balance?
The check-in balance shows how many check-ins you currently have available. When a booking is scheduled, one check-in is reserved. Once your boarding pass is obtained, it is deducted from your balance. One free check-in is automatically credited each month if you were checked in via 1Checkin during the previous month.
How do I purchase additional check-ins?
Additional check-in packages can be purchased through in-app purchase or by credit card on your desktop account. You receive a 25% discount when purchasing check-ins through your web account.
